What a busy many months it has been. I apologize for the lack of updates.
I want to take a moment and thank everyone who was involved with my Award of Arms at Fall Coronation, I'm honored to now be known as Lady Margery.
My plan is to submit my SCA name and device within the next month. I'll announce when it is approved :)
I'm also a proud owner of some stainless steel lamaller armor - YES, I will be getting out there and learning heavy fighting, now that the weather is a bit cooler :)
I'm also looking forward to submitting into my first Art/Sci on Oct 22nd, 2011 over at the Carpe Artes!
I will be submitting a Viking Knit piece.
Well, off to get ready for a Bacon and Brownies Documentation party!

April 2011 Dates to Remember
Greetings everyone! Wow! As I look into April - there is ALOT going on! Please hold on to this email as the whole month of events and dates will be noted!
Dates of Interest for April:
Friday - Sunday April 1st-3rd - Spring Coronation - Camp Ocala
http://www.oldenfeld.net/events/coronationspring2011/
Copied from the Seneschal group via Lady Lucrezia sarta di Napoli:
Greetings Everyone,
The Order of the Rose will be sponsoring a William Marshal style Fundraiser tourney this weekend to support the Kingdom War Chest.
So please remember to have some $$cash$$ on hand to come participate in the Tourney.
The format is this:
The lyst will start at 2pm and run for one hour ending at 3pm. (It will run for one hour...it's scheduled for 2pm, but start time largely depends on the end time of the Champion Trimaris Lyst.)
The minimum buy-in for the Tourney is $5. For $5 dollars you will receive 3 flowers. You may purchase as many flowers as you like, there is no limit. The flowers will be $2 each or 3 for $5. As the fights are fought, the lady for whom the fighter is fighting holds their flowers. After each bout, the fighter that has not been victorious bestows one of his flowers to the lady of the victor.
At the end of the lyst, the fighter whose consort holds the most flowers will be declared the victor.
Please know that the Kingdom War Chest is one of things that enables things like, hay, propane, decorations, and many other things that benefit the whole Kingdom at War. When the Kingdom has a healthy War Chest it benefits the whole Kingdom at War.
I look forward to seeing everyone this weekend!

All fighters! Make sure you join this google group! It gets you in connection with fighters from Broward and West Palm areas - it's always good to network with other areas to find more people to play with!
As you know the weekly fighter practices are well received and enjoyed by those that attend. In an effort to boost our numbers, I have been in contact with some out of area fighters to have a joint Fighter Practice. The plan is to have a once a month fighter practice that rotates between here, Broward, and West Palm. The first one is scheduled to be here April 10th (weekend after Coronation). The site is tentatively set to be our normal one (Margery and Warren's place), however if someone knows of a comfortable, safe, and more public place please speak up. Having a more public appearance would be good for the Shire I believe. We would like to get as many people out to fight and support this as we can since we will be having guests that have driven many hours to get here. There is a Google Group that has been formed to help keep track of what is going on, http://groups.google.com/group/southern-trimaris-fighter-practice?hl=en , please join it so you can keep track and can let folks know if you can make that months practice.
Thanks

A number of us have been talking about doing a demo, possibly at a local college, like Edison or FGCU, I have personally contacted the kingdom hospitaller and asked about the steps. I'm also in the process of researching the colleges' groups to see who we can talk to at each place to get this rolling. However, I am not going to go too into detail, if we don't have the commitment. If you are interested in being a part of this demo, and can commit a full day on a weekend to do so, please respond. Based on the responses, I will go further in seeing where we can do a demo and recruit more people into our Shire.
**I'm still researching this, We will talk about this at Monthly Moot**

Thora is still fundraising money for her 60 mile walk for the Cure. There is a canister in the house here at the social gatherings if anyone would like to donate spare change or what not. Every little bit helps! :)

I would like to congratulate and welcome both Aimee and Jon Steele as our new Web minster and Chroniclers, as Gillian had to step down due to medical reasons. What a way to jump in head first within your first 2 months being part of our Shire ... hmm sounds familiar! :)

I hope to see you all out this month!

This week's Shire of Trisel email
For those not in the facebook group, a couple topics of interest:
- Brandon would like to know if anyone has a tent he could borrow for the Bardic Weekend, you can reply to this email and I will get the response to him.
- Mary and Jenn can get to the Social Gathering tomorrow night, however, they would need a ride back into Fort Myers - can anyone help out?
- Heavy Fighters:
Edwert EagleHeart MIGHT be there tomorrow - so please come on out if you can tomorrow night, they are trying to get a head count :)
- This past Sunday, the LaBelle Archery range was open at 2pm, it was posted on the facebook group, if you are not on facebook and would like a notification when the range is open, please respond to this email, and I'll be sure to let you know when it opens again.
- There is talk about doing a cruise the Summer of 2012, if you have an interest, please respond to this email, and I will send you the info that has been shared so far.
- For the heavy fighters, and shire members, as we approach the summer months, would a Saturday afternoon to evening Social gathering / fighter practice be preferred? Please share your thoughts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The month's schedule is below, however, please take a moment and check out the following website/blog:
Our very own shire member, Thora will be participating as a survivor in the Susan G Komen 3-day Walk for the Cure - that means she will be walking 60 miles in total Halloween weekend later this year in Tampa!!!! Please if you can, help her with her goal, $2 is the minimum to donate on the website, and every little bit helps. (Also, if you would like to donate a few dollars to Thora, but dodn't want to use the website, feel free to bring it to the Socials on Fridays, we will set up a collection box for her cause.)
For those who can not place the name, Thora has taught us tablet weaving a couple times in past Friday night Shire Socials.
Please share this with all your know ... the more opportunities she has for people to learn about her journey and reach her fundraising goal, the better!
Friday February 25th - 27th, 2011 - Shire of Trisel Bardic Weekend:
Well to help us all relax, and just chill out, SCA style .. we will be having a local camping weekend in North Fort Myers - a Shire of Trisel - Bardic Weekend - I threw together a little site about it - this is not an event, just a time that we, as a shire can hang out, learn more about bardic circles, practice with our fellow fighters, shoot some arrows, and craft together - You should bring your own meals and snacks ... Friday night a "travelers vegetable soup" will be available in the house.
Saturday night meal should include everyone's favorite chili or crock pot meal - we can plug them in at the house Saturday.
If you have tables, chairs, and pop up tents, to share for the weekend, please bring them if you can :)
If you have a basic or simple craft or SCA class that you would want to share with others, this could be another thing to add to Saturday's activities.
Our monthly moot for February will be the Friday night of the bardic weekend - 7pm - Feb. 25th
Our craft gathering will also be at the Bardic weekend - Saturday afternoon - lets focus on "portable period crafts" - great crafting projects to bring and work on at events - what are you working on?
I hope you are all doing well! And we see you soon!!
Well to help us all relax, and just chill out, SCA style .. we will be having a local camping weekend in North Fort Myers - a Shire of Trisel - Bardic Weekend - I threw together a little site about it - this is not an event, just a time that we, as a shire can hang out, learn more about bardic circles, practice with our fellow fighters, shoot some arrows, and craft together - You should bring your own meals and snacks ... Friday night a "travelers vegetable soup" will be available in the house.
Saturday night meal should include everyone's favorite chili or crock pot meal - we can plug them in at the house Saturday.
If you have a basic or simple craft or SCA class that you would want to share with others, this could be another thing to add to Saturday's activities.
I know it sounds like a whirlwind of things coming up, but all will be fun! See you sometime in January!
a Message from the SCA Board of Directors
Due to extraordinary legal expenses from an ongoing lawsuit, the SCA has determined that our best option is to raise membership fees in most classes by $8.00, effective January 1, 2011. Family membership rates will not increase, although the family cap for memberships will be raised by $5.00 effective the same time.
When we indicated in 2009 that membership fees would raise gradually over the next three years, we were not fully aware of the extent and impact of the legal fees required to defend our organization. Earlier this year we received a realistic projection for legal expenses through 2011. We are committed to protecting not only the SCA Inc., but the assets of every SCA group. This lawsuit may go on for additional years and cost-cutting alone will not be sufficient.
We are formulating a plan to get the SCA back on track and are selecting options to restructure our operating business model. One option is a move to electronic kingdom newsletters with a print-on-demand option for those who would like to get their version in hardcopy. With these changes, there are many details to consider
including: legal issues surrounding the fulfillment of our current subscription liability; the development of an electronic publishing framework for use by kingdom chroniclers that supports both web-publishing and print-on-demand; writing relevant changes to governing documents, officer handbooks, and kingdom procedures; and making dramatic programming changes to the SCA website and corporate systems.
The current migration of corporate and Society officer email addresses to a more robust infrastructure is a step in this direction.
It is our hope that as financial circumstances evolve we will be able to re-evaluate the entire membership fee structure once the effectiveness of the restructured business model can be determined. This would include evaluating the necessity of collecting NMS as well as potential reductions in membership fees.
There will be many stages in this process where feedback will be needed and solicited. We want to be completely transparent with any changes that will be made, and will share details as they become available. As every year, the budget will be posted on the SCA website as soon as it is approved for your review. Our job is to keep you as fully informed as possible and in that spirit we welcome any and all questions and comments. For the moment, please submit questions and comments through comments@sca.org.
Finally, this process will be very difficult and take many months to complete, so please bear with us. During this time, Board members will be attempting to attend as many events as possible to be available to answer your questions.
